The Mask
Thankfully, the latest international break is almost over and we get a break from Scotland’s quest to make up the numbers in America next year.
The focus, of course, has also been on Ibrox after Steven Gerrard turned down, again, a chance to returne to Sevco. Where the story has not gone, and it absolutely should have, is why. He clearly thought it a strong enough enticement to fly in and talk about the job but seems to have heard something he didn’t like and gave a hard no. The common perception is he didn’t want to answer to that Kevin guy but that masks the fact they have already spunked this seasons budget and are 11 points behind Hearts and nine behind Celtic.
Not exactly the most tempting of propositions ever.
Meanwhile over at Celtic, things have gone very quiet. The beleaguered board will be thankful for the shenanigans at Ibrox to make their own deficiencies.
There is no long term hiding place though and the spotlight will fall on them and the Celtic team at Dens Park on Sunday.
Whilst there will no doubt be continued protests against the board, rightly, the team need to start stepping up.
That goes for the manager too.
I saw Alan Morrison’s latest comments on The Huddle Breakdown about us changing formation and Alan gave his reasons why we shouldn’t. (Namely that it will see us shipping more goals) I respect Alan and love his output on Celtic but I don’t think we should banish the prospect of change. You can see football changing. Teams are going more direct, long throw ins are being utilised far more and Hearts have had lots of success playing two strikers.
it’s a debate to be had because we cannot let the problems at Ibrox mask our own.
Even if Halloween is coming.
