It probably sums up the world we live in now when a debate about someone not wearing a tie can last almost a week.
I did notice at the time that Brendan Rodgers wasn’t wearing a tie at Pittodrie but didn’t give it another thought. How it then reached a Celtic press conference is beyond me but then the archaic way they run those I suppose anything is possible.
I’m often called anything from a conspiracy theorist to a paranoid lunatic. I don’t believe any of the books or films I’ve done are based on specialisation but for the record I will name the three big stories that I don’t believe the official version of:
1) JFK Assassination
2) The Moon landing
3) A plane hitting the Pentagon
I’ve got reasons and research for all of those conclusions but I won’t bore you with them now.
I realised last year the genre I’ve written books and made films in is over for me. When I wrote The Asterisk Years; there weren’t many steaming platforms never mind true crime documentaries, Joe Rogan wasn’t that established and there were probably half the people using the internet that there are now.
What’s also happened is everyone is now creating their own narrative, everyone is a commentator and everyone wants attention. It’s become like a band which was run by the lead singer for years and then the guitarist and drummer start saying it’s then who should be in charge and the band ends up splitting.
It’s not a complain I should say, far from it. I believe everyone has a shelf life and space should always be made for the next generation coming up (One of the things that infuriates me more than anything is the people who think they are entitled to a high standard of living their entire life)
In terms of Celtic content, I’ve no interest in the legion of “celebrities” who attach themselves to the club, do the podcasts and then you never see them again.
Similarly, the sort of stuff Celtic put out I know is not aimed at the likes of me and I know now that’s deliberates
When you do the sort of things I do, creatively, there are certain things that you’ve no idea about that will end or staples in your life. The big one is folk not being able to separate the writing from the writer: which means they will support what you do, or not, depending on their current relationship with you. Then there are the obstacles. They never end. They come at you from all angles and are all designed to destroy you. I don’t care who you are, that’s tough. (Incredibly, I got as many obstacles that came out of On Robert Kelly’s Doorstep-primarily because I wrote that the formation of Celtic wasn’t all about charity)
The two newer staples are the increasingly lack of ability to absorb information both as people and as a society. When you’re trying to push something new, that’s your Achilles heel. )well that and the possibility your work may be shite)
Lastly, there is the amount of batshit crazy stuff out there. You can spend years of your life working and researching your stuff then someone can put out a 30 second clip saying “Have you noticed, you know, Covid 19, 19, letters of the alphabet. A.I.!!!! They are trying to kill us all!!!!” And boom, you’ve their attention.
Hey, I’m just an old man putting stuff out there for his own entertainment.
However…
I will let you into a secret..
I fucking hate wearing a tie.
Paul. You carry on writing mate, i like your writing style and believe most if not all you say because I am practically of the same mind.
Great piece as always Paul.
I loved the “Asterisk Years” and if you hadn’t put so much painstaking research into the project then yes, the term “Paranoid Lunatic” might apply. But, you did, and it doesn’t.
So called mainstream media journalists should be embarrassed, but we know how the system works up here.
I also agree with your 3 “official version of event” and many more besides.
